Prince of Persia: las arenas del tiempo combina exploracion y combates para crear una sintesis unica. Ambos elementos hacen uso de la capacidad y agilidad acrobatica del Principe. A lo largo de gran parte del juego, el jugador debe intentar atravesar el palacio saltando a traves de paredes, ascendiendo o descendiendo abismos saltando hacia adelante y atras, evitar trampas, trepando estructuras y saltando de plataforma en plataforma, ejecutando varios tipos de saltos, resolviendo rompecabezas, y utilizando objetos descubiertos para progresar.
